Job summary

The George Washington University Libraries and Academic Innovation (GWLAI) seeks a temporary Metadata and Cataloging Specialist. This role can be part-time or full-time (20–40 hours per week) and is set to begin August 24, 2026, through December 2026, at the Foggy Bottom campus in Washington, DC.

Primary duties include copy cataloging, processing withdrawals, ongoing maintenance for print and electronic resources, and collaborating with the RDG to ensure database integrity and streamlined

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in library-related field (conferred by start date).
• Experience in library technical services, cataloging, or metadata management.
• Familiarity with cataloging rules and integrated library systems (such as Alma).
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program preferred.
• Non-Roman script language expertise, particularly Persian, is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Perform copy cataloging for regular library materials.
• Process individual item withdrawals and physical processing.
• Execute routine maintenance tasks for print and electronic resources.
• Collaborate with RDG team to maintain database integrity and metadata workflows.
