Xcel Energy, Inc. seeks a detail-oriented, analytically driven professional to build and maintain the metadata foundation for our Customer domain from the ground up.

You will establish a data element registry, business glossary, and documented data lineage in an environment with no formal catalog or lineage. You will collaborate with data stewards across eleven sub-domains to capture metadata manually and deliver a catalog-ready format aligned to EDGO standards.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in metadata management, data cataloging, or data governance analysis.
• Proven experience building or maintaining a business glossary or critical data element registry.
• Preferred: experience with utility or customer billing data environments.
• Preferred: hands-on experience with Databricks Unity Catalog.
• Preferred: exposure to SAP metadata or conversion documentation.

Responsabilités

• Collect and quality-check critical data element templates from data stewards across eleven sub-domains before mock conversions.
• Build and maintain the CDE registry and business glossary, including systems of entry and record, owning and consuming sub-domains, and custodian assignments.
• Capture data lineage manually from conversion mappings and steward input, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Maintain all metadata in a catalog-ready structure aligned to EDGO standards and classification frameworks.
• Support evaluating existing enterprise catalog and lineage tools before new tooling purchases.
• Provide definitions and context to support report rationalization and metric certification to Product Owner and Insights Analyst.
• Develop and execute a Data Product cataloging and certification strategy aligned with ED governance standards.

Job Summary

Working closely with data stewards across eleven sub-domains, this individual will capture and structure metadata manually — using steward knowledge and conversion mappings — in a catalog-ready format aligned to Enterprise Data Governance Office standards. This is a high-impact, foundational role with a clear path to a permanent full-time position contingent on catalog or lineage tooling funding for Customer Core.

Skills

• Strong understanding of metadata management principles, data cataloging practices, and data governance frameworks
• Demonstrated ability to build or maintain a business glossary or CDE registry
• Working knowledge of at least one enterprise catalog platform such as Databricks Unity Catalog, Collibra, Alation, or Microsoft Purview
• Excellent structured documentation habits with the ability to produce clear, consistent, and audit-ready artifacts
• Effective collaboration and communication skills for working across cross-functional steward and governance teams
• Ability to work independently in ambiguous environments with minimal tooling support

Experience

• 4 or more years of experience in metadata management, data cataloging, or data governance analysis
• Proven experience building or maintaining a business glossary or critical data element registry
• Preferred: experience with utility or customer billing data environments
