So, what will the Metadata and Cataloging Librarian at Terrestris do?

Their main duties include cataloging physical and digital materials, ensuring metadata standards are followed, and supporting the library’s information retrieval systems.

What does a typical day look like for a Metadata and Cataloging Librarian?

A Metadata and Cataloging Librarian’s day is dynamic. The role involves various cataloging tasks for monographs and continuing resources, including copy cataloging and creating new records in OCLC's Connexion, adhering to RDA, AACR2, MARC 21, and GPO guidelines. This includes exporting records into the GPO's Integrated Library System (ILS), Aleph 500, under the guidance of a senior cataloger. The librarian also edits and updates bibliographic records in Aleph 500, utilizing advanced search techniques to determine whether new records or copy cataloging are necessary for items with limited or handwritten information. They assign Library of Congress Subject Headings, authorized name, and series authorities to records and conduct research to determine if new NACO or series authorities are needed. Additionally, they create and update serial pattern/item/holding records and summaries in the ILS, compile metrics for reporting, and prepare written documents under GPO staff supervision.

What qualifications do you look for?

You might be the person we’re looking for if you have:
