Job description

MPF Federal is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Librarian to support transcript quality control, metadata creation, and archival organization of oral history collections remotely. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in library science, descriptive cataloging, and digital archive management, with an interest in preserving cultural and historical narratives.

Compensation: Salary: $54,100; $26/hr

Work Schedule: M-F 8am until 5pm (Eastern)

Location: Remote (candidates located in the Eastern Standard Time zone will be preferred)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review oral history transcripts for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Apply and improve metadata for individual oral history records to ensure discoverability and contextual integrity.
  • Create collection-level metadata as assigned and fill gaps in existing metadata.
  • Ensure all materials align with archival best practices and comply with NOAA Voices Oral History data governance protocols and SOPs.
  • Review and upload professionally transcribed files into the NOAA Voices database and spreadsheets.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and contracted staff to coordinate data processing activities and maintain project timelines.

Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited institution
  • 1-2 years of full-time experience as a professional librarian
  • Experience reviewing transcripts to ensure precision and quality
  • Experience with descriptive cataloging
  • Experience applying metadata for digital and archival collections
  • Experience using archival databases

Preferred:

  • Experience processing and describing oral histories,
  • Experience processing transcripts and audio files
