Job description

We are conducting a confidential search for a Director of Mergers & Acquisitions to join the corporate development team of a rapidly growing, multi-location services organization based in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The company has an active acquisition strategy and a demonstrated track record of completing transactions as it continues to expand nationally. This is a highly visible role with meaningful responsibility for identifying, evaluating and executing acquisitions while working directly with senior executives, business owners, functional leaders and outside advisors.

The Director will help lead transactions across the full M&A lifecycle: from opportunity identification and initial evaluation through LOI, due diligence, negotiation and closing.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead the evaluation and execution of prospective acquisition opportunities
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of potential acquisition targets through market mapping, research and relationship development
  • Assess strategic fit, transaction economics, valuation and key business drivers
  • Develop financial models, investment analyses and recommendations for senior leadership
  • Lead transaction processes from initial evaluation through LOI, due diligence and closing
  • Coordinate financial, legal, operational, technology, HR and other diligence workstreams
  • Identify key transaction risks, issues and opportunities and translate findings into actionable recommendations
  • Manage external legal counsel, diligence providers, brokers and other transaction advisors
  • Build trusted relationships with business owners, founders and management teams throughout the transaction process
  • Partner closely with Finance, Operations, Human Resources, IT and other functional leaders
  • Provide senior leadership with clear visibility into transaction economics, risks, decisions, timing and critical next steps
  • Help continuously improve the organization's acquisition processes, tools and approach as the platform continues to scale
Ideal background:

We are interested in experienced M&A professionals with backgrounds such as:

  • Corporate Development
  • Investment Banking
  • Private Equity
  • Transaction Advisory / Deal Advisory
  • Accounting or Finance with significant transaction experience

The strongest candidates will have demonstrated experience executing transactions and the ability to independently manage multiple deals and workstreams. Strong financial modeling, valuation and analytical skills are important, along with a solid understanding of accounting and transaction fundamentals.

This role also requires someone who can operate effectively beyond the numbers. The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging with founders and business owners, presenting recommendations to senior executives, coordinating cross-functional teams and exercising sound judgment when navigating complex or sensitive transaction issues.

We are looking for a relationship-oriented, intellectually curious and highly accountable leader who combines analytical rigor with strong business judgment. This individual should take initiative, communicate clearly, follow through on commitments and thrive in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.

The position is based in Grand Rapids or Traverse City, Michigan, with flexibility in work arrangements and some travel expected. Regular in-person interaction with senior leadership and the broader corporate development team will be an important part of the role.

This is an attractive opportunity for an experienced M&A professional looking for greater deal ownership, direct senior leadership exposure and the ability to help shape the acquisition strategy of a growing national organization.
