Job summary

cabi is seeking a Merchandiser to join the Production team in Long Beach, CA. The role oversees seasonal assortment strategy, line architecture, and buy planning in partnership with Design, Sourcing & Development, and Inventory Management, and leads the Assistant Product Merchandiser.

The ideal candidate has 4–7+ years in buying/merchandising in contemporary women’s apparel, strong Excel/data skills, and a track record of cross-functional collaboration and leadership.

Qualifications

• 4–7+ years of experience in buying, merchandising, or product development within contemporary or women’s apparel.
• Strong analytical and financial acumen—comfortable owning trackers and data in Excel, buy depth, and chase scenarios.
• Comfortable operating within a broader product organization spanning Design, Merchandising, Sourcing & Development, and Inventory Management.
• Senior candidates should also bring experience presenting recommendations to leadership and mentoring or managing junior team members.

Responsibilities

• Own or support seasonal assortment strategy, line architecture, and category growth– from hindsight analysis and trend direction through assortment architecture, buy planning, and launch.
• Track and analyze style- and category-level performance data; translate insights into clear, actionable assortment and buying recommendations.
• Maintain and lead the product development critical path for assigned categories; manage line plans, item trackers, and milestone documents; flag and resolve risks or delays.
• Partner with Design and Sourcing & Development on sample flow, fit review schedules, and product development milestones, providing commercial direction that weighs trend, brand voice, customer insight, and margin targets.
• Support costing and margin analysis at the style or category level; elevate exceptions, and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
• Partner closely with Inventory Management on buy depth, chase strategy, and lifecycle decisions; balance Stylist demand against markdown and inventory risk.
• Conduct competitive market research and contribute findings to assortment strategy discussions.
• Build and present seasonal hindsight recaps and forward-looking business cases; identify top and bottom performers and translate learnings into next-season recommendations.
• Collaborate with Marketing and Field teams to translate assortment intent into hero items and seasonal themes.

cabi is hiring a Merchandiser to join our Production team, with the level (Merchandiser or Senior Merchandiser) and title determined by the selected candidate’s experience. Reporting to the Head of Product, this individual owns key parts of the development and execution of seasonal product assortments – translating brand vision, storytelling, and business targets into a cohesive, commercially viable line in partnership with Design, Sourcing & Development, and Inventory Management. This role helps execute the Head of Product’s broader product strategy: ensuring assortment architecture, pricing, and buy decisions are data-driven and on-brand, and that product intent translates into the stories Marketing and Field bring to Stylists and customers. The role also leads one direct report, an Assistant Product Merchandiser, and is expected to grow in strategic ownership over time: managing data, cross-functional deliverables, category-level assortment strategy, buy planning, and margin performance. We’re looking for someone with strong analytical instincts, sharp attention to detail, and a genuine passion for product – equally comfortable with the creative vision and the numbers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own or support (depending on level) seasonal assortment strategy, line architecture, and category growth– from hindsight analysis and trend direction through assortment architecture, buy planning, and launch – in line with the broader product roadmap.
• Track and analyze style- and category-level performance data; translate insights into clear, actionable assortment and buying recommendations.
• Maintain and/or lead the product development critical path for assigned categories; manage line plans, item trackers, and milestone documents; proactively flag and resolve risks or delays.
• Partner with Design and Sourcing & Development on sample flow, fit review schedules, and product development milestones, providing commercial direction that weighs trend, brand voice, customer insight, and margin targets – while upholding product integrity and fit consistency.
• Support costing and margin analysis at the style or category level; elevate exceptions, and identify opportunities to improve profitability without compromising product integrity.
• Partner closely with Inventory Management on buy depth, chase strategy, and lifecycle decisions; use performance data to balance Stylist demand against markdown and inventory risk.
• Conduct competitive market research – shopping, trend analysis, pricing benchmarks – and contribute findings and recommendations to assortment strategy discussions.
• Build and present seasonal hindsight recaps and forward-looking business cases; identify top and bottom performers and translate learnings into next-season recommendations.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing and Field teams to translate assortment intent into hero items, outfitting stories, and seasonal themes that are clear and ready for field selling, marketing content, and launch moments.
• Manage and develop the Assistant Product Merchandiser – delegating and reviewing work, and building their analytical and commercial merchandising instincts.
• Identify process improvement opportunities in assortment planning, data management, or cross-functional workflows, and recommend solutions.
• Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 4–7+ years of experience in buying, merchandising, or product development within contemporary or women’s apparel
• Solid understanding of the product development lifecycle and retail or direct-to-consumer merchandising fundamentals; direct-to-consumer or direct sales experience a plus.
• Strong analytical and financial acumen – comfortable owning trackers and data in Excel, buy depth, and chase scenarios.
• Comfortable operating within a broader product organization spanning Design, Merchandising, Sourcing & Development, and Inventory Management, with an interest in how assortment decisions translate into brand storytelling and go-to-market execution.
• Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and to communicate and influence cross-functionally; senior candidates should also bring experience presenting recommendations to leadership and mentoring or managing junior team members.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $110,000 - $130,000.

In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for 15% Bonus.
