Job description

The Merchandise Planner will be responsible for developing and executing merchandise strategies that align with our sales goals and inventory management practices. This role requires strong analytical skills, a keen eye for trends, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal product assortment and inventory levels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Planning and Forecasting - Analyze historical sales data, market trends, and customer preferences to develop accurate sales forecasts and inventory plans.
  2. Inventory Management - Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability while minimizing excess and markdowns.
  3. Product Assortment - Collaborate with the buying team to determine product assortment strategies that align with brand vision and customer demand.
  4. Sales Analysis - Evaluate sales performance and make recommendations for adjustments to merchandising strategies based on data-driven insights.
  5. Cross-Functional Collaboration - Work closely with marketing, e-commerce, and operations teams to ensure cohesive execution of merchandising plans and promotional strategies.
  6. Reporting - Prepare and present regular reports on merchandise performance, inventory levels, and KPIs to senior management.
  7. Trend Analysis - Stay updated on industry trends and competitor activity to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
Education and/or Experience
  • BA or BS in Merchandising, Business or related field preferred
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Experience in retail merchandise planning, demand forecasting, inventory management, allocation, financial planning, or a similar role preferred
  • Ability to work with multiple product categories simultaneously
  • Strong interest in fashion and the retail industry
  • Proficiency in Retail Math and analysis using planning systems and Excel preferred
  • Ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Solid understanding of inventory management practices and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
