Job summary

The Episcopal School of Dallas is seeking an MEP Technician I to support the Campus Maintenance Engineer in maintaining and repairing building systems, including fire/life safety, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.

You will operate BAS/EMS/ATC to monitor systems, program schedules, perform inspections, coordinate with contractors, manage inventory, and ensure safety practices while minimizing disruption to classrooms and activities.

Qualifications

• Certificate from a Trade/Vocational school in HVAC.
• 2+ years related work experience, including supervisory experience.
• Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs.
• Basic computer knowledge background requirements.

Responsibilities

Job description

Purpose

The MEP Technician I is responsible for assisting the Campus Maintenance Engineer in the maintenance, repair, and continuous operation of building systems including: fire/life safety, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.

Essential Functions

Self performs work-order flow, including the following:

• Controls, monitors, and assesses building systems operation and performance, with assistance from third-party vendor Schneider Electric.
• Operates HVAC and lighting systems through the building automation systems (BAS or EMS or ATC).
• Programs the building automation system for holidays and event schedules.
• Performs tests, inspections, and analysis of data to ensure the proper functioning of building systems under management.

Performs routine building engineering work and inspections

• Repairs and replaces HVAC mechanical equipment system components.
• Set job/task priorities while keeping minimal classroom disruptions in mind.
• Set deadlines or timeframes for work to be accomplished to ensure a high level of customer service is met.
• Replaces and repairs electrical building system components such as failed lamps and ballasts in light fixtures, electrical outlets, conduit, and other fixtures.
• Repairs and replaces electronic door hardware and vehicle gate electrical components.
• Repair office equipment, paper cutters, shredders, laminators, and small engines.
• Assist in coordinating w/contractors for MEP projects.
• Manage/maintain inventory HVAC/Mech/Plumbing, (Min/Max standards).
• Fabricate/repair small structures (metal welding).
• Repairs and replaces HVAC mechanical equipment system components (i.e, belt changes, cleaning coils, filter changes) and checks system operations.
• Repairs and replaces other equipment such as kitchen cooking equipment, pumps, chillers, water fountains, and ice makers.
• Causes the inspection and testing of fire/life safety systems and makes necessary repairs or additions to maintain optimal system performance, as well as code compliance.

With guidance from the Director of Facilities, manages and implements a comprehensive preventative maintenance plan in order to extend the life of building systems under management as much as possible.

• Monitors, assigns, and performs routine PM tasks already within the system.
• Advises on new PM tasks as needed for an expanding campus facility.
• Revises PM tasks and frequency based on changing requirements or needs.
• PM routine to assist the Campus Maintenance Engineer with controlling and making necessary changes to the building HVAC and lighting systems using the building automation systems (BAS or EMS or ATC).
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• Adheres to policies related to boundaries with students.
• Attends required abuse risk management training.
• Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
• Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Adheres to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
• Frequently lift equipment and materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
• Crawl, climb ladders, twist, turn, and reach in completing a variety of job duties.
• Work outside in hot or cold conditions for extended periods of time.
• Work in a wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school.
