Higley Construction seeks an MEP Construction Superintendent to lead all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and specialty systems on assigned projects. Job description

Position Overview:

The MEP Construction Superintendent is a highly skilled field leader responsible for overseeing all Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection (MEPF), and specialty systems construction activities on assigned projects. This position serves as Higley's primary field representative for building systems coordination and is responsible for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The MEP Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, owners, architects, engineers, commissioning agents, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure successful project execution. This individual provides technical leadership, drives collaboration among trade partners, proactively resolves field challenges, and ensures all building systems are properly coordinated, installed, tested, commissioned, and turned over to the owner. As a senior leader within the organization, the MEP Superintendent mentors and develops Project Engineers, Assistant Superintendents, and Superintendents while promoting Higley's culture, values, and commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and coordinate all Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection (MEPF), controls, and specialty systems construction activities.
  • Manage day-to-day field operations to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, inspections, equipment deliveries, testing, commissioning, startups, shutdowns, and system cutovers.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain, and update MEP schedules while proactively identifying and resolving risks that may impact project performance.
  • Lead coordination meetings, pre-installation meetings, and planning sessions to support efficient project execution.
  • Review and provide input on shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, change orders, commissioning plans, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate MEP trade activities, BIM/VDC efforts, and building systems integration to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Promote and enforce Higley's safety culture while ensuring compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and project requirements.
  • Monitor workmanship and quality to ensure installations comply with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable codes.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports and project documentation utilizing construction management software.
  • Partner with Project Managers to support project budgets, forecasts, procurement activities, and change management processes.
  • Coordinate project closeout activities including punch lists, owner training, turnover documentation, warranty coordination, and final acceptance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and industry partners while representing Higley Construction with professionalism and integrity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Controls, and building automation systems.
  • Thorough understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, logistics, and trade coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, life safety requirements, industry standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Extensive experience with commissioning, startup, testing, balancing, equipment cutovers, and systems turnover.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, BIM models, shop drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Experience utilizing BIM/VDC technology and participating in model coordination processes.
  • Strong leadership, conflict resolution, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management platforms.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments while managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, accountability, and a commitment to exceptional customer service.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Building Systems, or a related field preferred. Equivalent field experience will be considered.
  • Journeyman certification or formal trade training in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, or related disciplines is highly desirable.
  • 15-20+ years of construction experience with increasing responsibility in field leadership roles.
