Job description

Position Purpose

The MEP Superintendent provides direction for all aspects of MEP coordination for the assigned project. They provide construction support for MEP systems and oversee the balancing, commissioning, and validation certification of these systems. The Superintendent supports superintendents and project managers in resolving technical problems with MEP systems, manages project costs to ensure completion within budget, and participates in the preconstruction and construction processes. They assist the project team in developing the project schedule, establishing critical path steps, allocating resources, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The role manages the owner‑architect interface and oversees HVAC, electrical, controls, plumbing, process piping, and fire protection design and construction coordination. The Superintendent leads and develops project staff and ensures the project meets or exceeds customer expectations.

Responsibilities

• Support both pre‑construction and the project team in reviewing trade partners proposals, schedules, and logistics.
• Manage the installation of electrical, HVAC, automation, plumbing, process piping, low voltage systems, fire/life safety, and fire protection design and construction coordination (validated and non‑validated systems).
• Participate in the review of MEP related shop drawings and submittals.
• Assist in developing full commissioning plans that identify test requirements, inspections, factory start‑up of major equipment, factory acceptance testing, and documentation requirements.
• Provide onsite construction support for MEP systems and oversee start‑up, balancing, commissioning, and validation certification, including owner training and project closeout.
• Develop and oversee project‑specific MEP quality and safety programs and engage in safety cause mapping for post‑MEP safety events.
• Create construction schedules, perform regular updates, monitor logical relationships, and insert new activities and impacts.
• Coordinate jobsite logistics and maintain relationships with neighboring occupants.
• Negotiate with authorities having jurisdiction to achieve occupancy milestones.
• Lead RO’s safety starts with me program.
• Coordinate subcontractor scopes, scheduling, and resource loading with RO’s self‑perform crews.
• Foster the development of foremen to become future superintendents.
• Represent RO field operations as the primary interface with owner and design team.
• Train and develop MEP Coordinators and supervise them at the project level.
• Coordinate with other MEP Superintendents.
