We are seeking an experienced MEP Project Manager to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage systems on commercial construction projects. This role serves as the technical lead for building systems from preconstruction through project closeout, ensuring quality installation, schedule alignment, cost efficiency, and successful project delivery. The ideal candidate has extensive experience working for a commercial general contractor and excels at collaborating with project teams, design consultants, and trade partners on complex commercial projects.
- Lead and manage all MEP systems across multiple commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Partner with Preconstruction teams to review design documents, identify system conflicts, evaluate constructability, and develop value engineering opportunities.
- Perform comprehensive constructability reviews to ensure MEP systems are fully coordinated with architectural, structural, and civil design.
- Oversee BIM coordination efforts, including clash detection meetings, model reviews, and integration of all building systems.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and trade partners to align MEP installation with project schedules, sequencing, and field operations.
- Review and manage MEP-related submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, change orders, and technical documentation.
- Monitor installation quality and ensure all building systems comply with project specifications, contract documents, and manufacturer requirements.
- Lead coordination meetings with engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and owners to proactively resolve technical issues and maintain project momentum.
- Provide technical oversight throughout startup, testing, balancing, commissioning, and final system acceptance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable California building codes, energy standards, local jurisdiction requirements, and project-specific regulatory requirements.
- Support project turnover by coordinating O&M manuals, warranties, as-built documentation, commissioning reports, and owner training.
- Mentor project teams on MEP coordination best practices and provide technical guidance throughout project execution.
- Travel regularly to project sites throughout Southern California.
Qualifications & Technical Skills
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage systems utilized in commercial construction.
- Strong understanding of BIM coordination processes, clash detection, and multidisciplinary systems integration.
- Experience with commissioning, testing and balancing (TAB), startup procedures, and building system performance verification.
- Thorough knowledge of California building codes, energy codes, and commercial construction standards.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Procore, and project scheduling software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience managing MEP systems on commercial construction projects.
- Previous experience working for a commercial General Contractoris required.
- Experience delivering complex commercial projects such as corporate offices, education, higher education, healthcare, mixed-use, hospitality, industrial, municipal, or public works facilities is highly desirable.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license, LEED Accreditation, or other industry certifications are considered a plus.
