Job description

The MEP Engineer is responsible for designing, evaluating, and supporting the installation and servicing of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across commercial facilities and new construction projects. This role supports the full lifecycle of building systems including design review, system upgrades, troubleshooting, equipment replacement, and new facility construction.

The position requires strong technical expertise in commercial building systems including HVAC equipment, electrical distribution, plumbing infrastructure, and building utilities. The engineer will work closely with construction teams, service technicians, facility managers, and contractors to ensure systems are properly designed, installed, and maintained to meet operational, safety, and regulatory standards. Projects may include healthcare facilities, data centers, education campuses, laboratories, houses of worship, and high-occupancy commercial buildings where reliability, safety, and system uptime are critical.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities Engineering and System Reliability
  • Design, review, and support mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for commercial buildings and new construction projects.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations related to HVAC systems, electrical infrastructure, plumbing networks, and building utilities.
  • Perform load calculations, equipment sizing, and system design analysis for heating, cooling, power distribution, water systems, and building utilities.
  • Review construction documents to ensure system designs meet applicable codes, regulations, and client requirements.
  • Support engineering design modifications and upgrades to improve system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.
  • Evaluate existing building systems and provide engineering recommendations for upgrades, repairs, or lifecycle replacements.
  • Conduct site visits and facility walk-throughs to assess mechanical rooms, electrical infrastructure, plumbing systems, and equipment condition.
  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system failures.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and service teams to diagnose equipment performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with implementation of preventive maintenance strategies and equipment reliability improvements.
  • Support new construction and renovation projects involving MEP systems.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, and project managers to ensure proper installation of building systems.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and equipment specifications from vendors and contractors.
  • Assist with commissioning activities, system testing, and startup of building systems.
  • Support project documentation including as-built drawings, engineering reports, and technical documentation.
  • Work closely with construction teams, contractors, and facility operators to ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide technical guidance during project planning, installation, and system commissioning.
  • Assist clients and facility managers with system planning, operational improvements, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain clear communication between engineering, construction, service, and operations teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline preferred.
  • 3–8+ years of experience in MEP engineering, building systems design, or commercial facilities engineering.
  • EIT or PE License is preferred
  • Experience supporting commercial construction projects and facility infrastructure systems.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical distribution, plumbing systems, and building utilities.
  • Familiarity with commercial building codes, energy standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience reviewing construction documents, shop drawings, and equipment submittals.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for diagnosing building system performance issues.
  • Proficiency with engineering design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, or other building system design software preferred.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills working with contractors, facility managers, and technical teams.
  • Ability to travel regionally to project sites and customer facilities as needed.
