The fastest way to become a strong mechanical engineer is to see what goes wrong. At TGCE, a large and growing share of our work is forensic: construction defect and errors-and-omissions cases where we are brought in as the expert to find out why a building's systems failed. Alongside your own design work, you will review other firms' drawings with our senior engineers and see the mistakes that most engineers only learn about the hard way. It is the kind of education you cannot get from a textbook or from a narrow role at a large firm.
We are also owned by the people who do the work. Every quarter, a meaningful share of the firm's profit goes to our employees, and after three years you have the opportunity to become a shareholder. Several of our owners started here as interns. What you get out of TGCE, in skill and in pay, follows what you put into it.
TGCE is an MEP engineering firm founded in Austin in 1985. About 30 of us work together in our Austin office, and we have completed more than 1,600 projects across higher education, healthcare, research, K-12, civic, hospitality, and historic preservation, for clients such as the University of Texas and MD Anderson. You will design building HVAC and plumbing systems under the review of experienced PEs: load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping, plumbing, schedules, and specifications. You will support forensic investigations, help assess existing buildings for renovations and repairs, and get out on job sites to see how your designs are built. As you earn your PE, you will take on ownership of your own projects.
If you are an early-career mechanical engineer who wants to learn faster and build a long career at a firm you can one day own, we would like to hear from you.
