Senior Mechanical MEP Manager – Data Centers
About the Role
A leading national construction and engineering organization is seeking a Senior Mechanical MEP Manager to lead MEP delivery across large-scale, mission critical data center projects.
This role will oversee mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and controls systems throughout design, preconstruction, construction, commissioning, and closeout. The Senior MEP Manager will work closely with engineering teams, contractors, OEMs, and field leadership to drive constructability, manage cost and schedule, reduce project risk, and ensure high-quality execution.
The position will also provide leadership, mentorship, and technical direction to MEP managers and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead MEP strategy and execution across large scale data center projects.
- Partner with engineering and trade partners to develop constructable designs and define project scope early.
- Drive cost, schedule, quality, and constructability throughout preconstruction and execution.
- Lead RFP development, pre-bid planning, subcontractor selection, and scope alignment.
- Oversee installation and commissioning of HVAC, chilled water, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.
- Manage MEP schedules, budgets, procurement, QA/QC, and project documentation.
- Coordinate general contractors, subcontractors, specialty vendors, OEMs, and internal project teams.
- Identify and mitigate technical, cost, schedule, and construction risks.
- Lead testing, commissioning, performance validation, and final handover of MEP systems.
- Review drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, method statements, and field changes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including NFPA, NEC, ASHRAE, and local requirements.
- Drive value engineering, innovation, and efficiency improvements across MEP systems.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development to MEP managers and project teams.
- Serve as a key point of contact for MEP coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of MEP construction management experience, ideally across large scale commercial, industrial, or data center projects.
- Data center and general contractor experience required.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, fire protection, electrical distribution, plumbing, and controls systems in mission critical environments.
- Experience managing CSA and MEP construction activities.
- Strong understanding of commissioning, testing, and performance validation.
- 7+ years of experience with construction scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, site based construction environments.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Project, Procore, and other project management tools.
