Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Cost Manager and/or Quantity Surveyor with expertise in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. The successful candidate will serve as the primary client interface, ensuring delivery of a value-added cost management service aligned with client objectives. Excellent communication skills and a client-facing demeanor are essential. This role offers leadership responsibilities, embedding and promoting Turner & Townsend’s values and vision.
Responsibilities
- Estimate and negotiate change orders throughout the construction lifecycle, focusing on MEP systems.
- Provide cost estimates and planning, including final cost plan presentations for MEP components.
- Collaborate with design teams and contractors on MEP cost estimates.
- Reconcile changes and ensure accuracy of MEP data with contractors.
- Communicate with contractors and project managers to update MEP cost estimates.
- Review and comment on MEP submissions, including executive summaries.
- Coordinate MEP cost information from various sources for discussions and procurement.
- Inform engineering priorities based on MEP cost impacts.
- Resolve scheduling issues proactively with minimal supervision.
- Manage cost checks and valuations, focusing on MEP systems, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Participate in post-contract cost variance analysis and change control.
- Track MEP cost impacts, contingencies, and commitments.
- Prepare funding presentations and facilitate value engineering sessions for MEP systems.
- Develop and update cost plans during the design phase for MEP components.
- Contribute to design optioneering and value engineering exercises.
- Review contractor pricing and lead negotiations to secure fair contracts for MEP components.
- Conduct quantity surveying, cost control, and change management activities throughout projects.
- Ensure effective management of post-contract cost variances and change controls.
- Manage cost auditing, valuation, and validation processes.
- Produce monthly cost reports focusing on MEP systems for clients.
- Negotiate and finalize final accounts promptly.
- Maintain as-built cost records for benchmarking.
- Mentor and develop talent within the team.
- Exhibit leadership and uphold service excellence on all projects.
- Utilize internal software for financial tracking and reporting.
- Implement and adhere to internal systems and delivery methodologies.
- Comply with SOX controls where applicable.
- Promote a one-business culture that balances the needs of people, clients, stakeholders, and society.
Project/Program Specifications
- Experience in data center construction or similar large-scale industrial projects is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience with MEP systems in major projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost management, engineering, or related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in cost management within the construction industry.
- RICS accreditation or progress towards it is preferred.
- Leadership experience in medium to large, complex projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, procurement, value management, and engineering.
- Excellent communication skills.
