MEP Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor - Data Center Construction (Anticipated Opening)

Turner & Townsend seeks an experienced Cost Manager and/or Quantity Surveyor specializing in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. The role involves acting as the key, day-to-day client interface, ensuring client objectives are met through a value-added cost management service.

Successful candidates will have excellent communication skills, be comfortable in client-facing roles, self-motivated, driven, and capable of working independently or as part of a team. This position requires leadership, embedding, and promoting the company's purpose, values, and vision.

Responsibilities:
  • Estimating and negotiating change orders during construction, focusing on MEP systems.
  • Providing estimate and cost planning, including producing and presenting final cost plans for MEP components.
  • Reviewing and collaborating with design teams and general contractors on MEP cost estimates.
  • Reconciling changes and assisting general contractors to ensure accurate MEP data.
  • Communicating with contractors and project managers to update MEP cost estimates.
  • Commenting on MEP submissions and preparing executive summaries.
  • Coordinating all MEP cost information for discussions and sourcing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Driving engineering priorities based on MEP cost impacts.
  • Resolving scheduling issues proactively with minimal supervision.
  • Managing cost checks, valuations, and variance processes, focusing on MEP systems.
  • Participating in post-contract cost variance and change control processes.
  • Managing MEP cost impact/contingency logs and preparing funding presentations.
  • Developing cost plans during design, delivering updates at key milestones.
  • Contributing to design optioneering and value engineering for MEP systems.
  • Reviewing pricing, leading negotiations to ensure fair contracts.
  • Performing quantity surveying, cost controls, and change management activities.
  • Ensuring effective management of post-contract cost variances and final accounts.
  • Producing monthly cost reports and maintaining as-built records.
  • Mentoring talent and exemplifying leadership and service excellence.
  • Tracking financial metrics using internal software and ensuring compliance with internal systems and methodologies.
Project/Program specifications:
  • Experience in data center or similar large-scale industrial projects preferred.
  • Extensive experience with MEP systems in large construction projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost management, engineering, or related field.
  • At least 2 years in a relevant cost management role.
  • RICS accreditation or working towards it preferred.
  • Leadership experience in medium to large, complex construction projects.
