Modular Skids | Mission-Critical Facilities | Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Systems
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced MEP Manager with a strong background in data center construction and modular skid systems to oversee the coordination, installation, integration, and commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for mission-critical projects.
This individual will play a key role in managing complex MEP scopes, with a particular focus on modular mechanical and electrical skids, prefabricated assemblies, and off-site fabrication processes. The ideal candidate has experience coordinating modular systems from design and fabrication through delivery, installation, startup, and commissioning, ensuring all systems meet project specifications, quality standards, and schedule requirements.
The successful candidate will work closely with general contractors, engineers, trade partners, manufacturers, vendors, and field teams to ensure seamless integration of modular systems within large-scale data center environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all MEP activities for data center construction projects, with a focus on modular skid systems and prefabricated equipment assemblies.
- Coordinate the design, fabrication, delivery, installation, and integration of modular mechanical and electrical skids.
- Manage MEP schedules, milestones, procurement activities, and installation sequencing to support overall project delivery.
- Collaborate with engineering, design, preconstruction, fabrication, and field teams to resolve constructability issues and ensure design coordination.
- Review mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications, equipment layouts, submittals, and installation details to identify potential conflicts and ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate modular skid interfaces with building infrastructure, including piping connections, electrical distribution, controls, instrumentation, and utility systems.
- Oversee coordination of mechanical systems such as chillers, pumps, heat exchangers, cooling distribution units (CDUs), piping assemblies, and other mission-critical cooling equipment, as applicable to the project.
- Coordinate electrical systems and equipment associated with modular skids, including switchgear, transformers, power distribution, controls, and backup power interfaces, as applicable.
- Work with prefabrication shops and equipment manufacturers to monitor fabrication progress, quality control, testing, and readiness for shipment.
- Ensure modular assemblies are delivered to site on schedule and installed in accordance with approved drawings, manufacturer requirements, and project specifications.
- Lead coordination meetings with general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, vendors, and commissioning teams to resolve technical issues and maintain project alignment.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, design revisions, and other project documentation related to MEP and modular skid scopes.
- Monitor installation quality, safety compliance, labor productivity, and schedule performance across field and fabrication activities.
- Coordinate system startup, pre-functional testing, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and commissioning activities.
- Identify project risks, equipment lead-time challenges, design gaps, and interface issues while developing proactive solutions to minimize delays and rework.
- Maintain clear communication with project leadership regarding progress, outstanding issues, schedule risks, and overall MEP performance.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience managing MEP systems on commercial, industrial, or mission-critical construction projects.
- Direct experience with data center construction is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with modular skids, prefabricated MEP assemblies, or off-site fabrication and installation.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems used in mission-critical facilities.
- Experience coordinating modular equipment from fabrication and factory testing through site installation, startup, and commissioning.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, equipment layouts, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), specifications, and coordination models.
- Familiarity with BIM/VDC coordination, clash detection, constructability reviews, and multidisciplinary design coordination.
- Strong knowledge of construction scheduling, procurement, quality control, safety requirements, and subcontractor management.
- Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and manage complex technical scopes in a fast-paced construction environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with hyperscale data centers, colocation facilities, or other mission-critical infrastructure projects.
- Background working for a mechanical contractor, electrical contractor, general contractor, modular construction provider, or equipment manufacturer.
- Experience with prefabricated mechanical skids, pump skids, chilled-water systems, cooling distribution systems, or modular power distribution assemblies.
- Familiarity with factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning documentation, and integrated systems testing.
- Experience coordinating off-site fabrication with on-site construction teams to improve installation efficiency and schedule certainty.
- Knowledge of data center cooling technologies, redundancy requirements, and mission-critical system reliability.
- Experience managing large-scale projects with multiple modular equipment packages and complex MEP interfaces.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a technically strong, hands-on MEP leader who understands the unique challenges of delivering modular systems in data center environments. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between engineering, off-site fabrication, and field installation, ensuring modular skids are properly coordinated, delivered, integrated, and commissioned.
This individual will be instrumental in driving quality, schedule performance, and coordination across complex MEP scopes while supporting the successful delivery of mission-critical data center infrastructure.
