Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs seeks mentors for a Beginning Teacher Mentorship program in West Virginia. The contract/hourly role provides a year-long mentorship, with mentors assigned on a semester-to-semester basis, guiding beginning teachers in subject and grade alignment.

Qualifications

• Must have completed WV Center for Professional Development's mentor training institute.
• Preference for Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential.
• Must either hold or complete mentor course offered by WV State Department of Education before end of mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Mentor a Beginning Teacher for a year-long program, assigned semester-to-semester.
• Match the beginning teacher with a mentor aligned to the same subject and grade level when possible.
• Ensure completion of the mentor course before the mentorship ends.

Job description

Position Type: Contract/Hourly Employment

• Preference for teachers at the same school, teaching the same or similar subject and grade level as the beginning teacher.
• Mentor must have completed the WV Center for Professional Development's mentor training institute prior to or during the first semester of such assignment.
• Preference given to those teachers holding the Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential.
• EMPLOYMENT TERM: The Beginning Teacher Mentorship is a year-long experience, completed in the semester increments. The mentor is assigned on a semester-to-semester basis pending the placement of the beginning teacher.
• SALARY $300 per Mentor per semester - Job description available from the personnel office.
• ***Each Faculty Senate shall have an opportunity to make recommendations on the selection of faculty to serve as mentors for beginning teachers under beginning teacher internship programs at the school (18-5A-5)
• MUST HAVE OR COMPLETE MENTOR COURSE OFFERED THRU WV STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION BEFORE END OF MENTORSHIP
