Job summary

18 Degrees Family Services for Western Massachusetts is seeking a Mentor Coordinator to recruit, train, and support volunteer mentors and to match them with youth in our programs.

You will manage follow-up with mentors and mentees and families, plan trainings and community activities, and maintain documentation, reporting to the Director of Volunteer Services.

Qualifications

• Must be able to listen to and support adults and youth through challenging conversations.
• 3–5 years in coordinator roles for human services organizations may substitute for degree.
• Strong interpersonal communication, writing and active listening skills essential.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and boundaries is required.

Responsibilities

• Mentor recruitment: screen, onboard and train mentor volunteers with focus on cultural diversity.
• Mentee recruitment: interview and screen youth for participation and matches.
• Provide follow-up support to mentors, mentees and families for full engagement.
• Plan trainings and workshops independently and with others.
• Plan and implement community-based activities with staff, volunteers and youth.
• Maintain documentation, referral tracking, data entry and success stories.
• Report to the Director of Volunteer Services and collaborate to grow volunteer support.

The Mentor Coordinator trains and supports volunteer mentors and matches them one-to-one with youth in our programs. Must have ability to listen to and support both adults and youth through challenging conversations.

Responsibilities include:

• Mentor Recruitment – Screen, onboard and train mentor volunteers with focus on cultural diversity
• Mentee Recruitment - Interviewing and screening youth for participation and creating matches
• Providing follow-up support to Mentors, Mentees and their family for full engagement
• Planning trainings and workshops both independently and with others
• Plan and implement community-based activities with staff, volunteers and youth
• Maintain documentation, referral tracking, data entry and success stories.
• This position reports to the Director of Volunteer Services and works closely with her to increase and support volunteers throughout 18 Degrees.

Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred. 3-5 years’ experience in coordinator role for human services organization may be substituted for degree. Ability to coach others on boundaries, trauma informed care and vicarious trauma is essential. Strong interpersonal communication, writing and active listening skills; use of Microsoft Office.
