Job summary

Pasadena Villa Outpatient seeks an Experienced Therapist to provide individual and group therapy in an outpatient setting in Norfolk, VA. You will assess needs, develop treatment plans, and coordinate care with families and referrals to support the treatment plan.

The role requires a Master’s degree in a behavioral health field, VA licensure pursuit, and at least 1 year of related experience in a behavioral health setting. A collaborative, client‑centered environment is offered.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, or psychology.
  • Must hold or be working toward VA licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or LMHC).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a behavioral health care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate high‑level clinical skill in assessing client needs and determining appropriate interventions.
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions in accordance with client needs.
  • Complete psychosocial evaluations, treatment plans, contact logs, discharge plans, and other required reports in compliance with state, accrediting, quality, and payor guidelines.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate client care from admission through discharge.
  • Attend weekly clinical, consultation, and business meetings; present cases for discussion as pre‑assigned.
  • Complete documentation in a timely and accurate manner reflecting ongoing assessment of client presentation and behaviors.
  • Communicate client progress with referral sources, families, parents, or guardians regarding treatment goals and plans.

Position Summary

The Therapist is responsible for providing individual and group therapy sessions for clients in a specialized outpatient facility. The Therapist assesses the therapeutic needs of the individuals and families, develops appropriate treatment plans, and serves as the primary contact for clients and families throughout the treatment process. The Therapist acts as a client advocate within the treatment team, coordinates care with referral sources and clinical partners, and serves as a liaison with families to support the treatment plan.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate high-level clinical skill in assessing client needs and determining appropriate interventions.
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions in accordance with client needs.
  • Complete psychosocial evaluations, treatment plans, contact logs, discharge plans, and other required reports in compliance with state, accrediting, quality, and payor guidelines.
  • Conduct weekly individual and family therapy sessions for the assigned caseload.
  • Monitor behavioral interventions and provide skills coaching as needed.
  • Conduct specialized groups as assigned and supervise or co‑lead groups with staff or interns when appropriate.
  • Select appropriate interventions to meet the clinical needs of individual clients.
  • Maintain therapeutic relationships with clients, reinforcing positive behaviors and attitudes.
  • Set limits and uphold boundaries in a kind and firm manner.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal crisis intervention and de‑escalation, involving staff as needed.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate client care from admission through discharge.
  • Attend weekly clinical, consultation, and business meetings; present cases for discussion as pre‑assigned.
  • Complete documentation in a timely and accurate manner reflecting ongoing assessment of client presentation and behaviors.
  • Communicate client progress with referral sources, families, parents, or guardians regarding treatment goals and plans.
  • Document in accordance with policies and procedures, including incident reports, shift reports, or departmental reports.
