Job Title: Mental Health Therapist for Law Enforcement and Fire Service
Reports To: Office Manager
Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate LMHC or LCSW to provide targeted mental health services for personnel in law enforcement and the fire service. This role involves assessing, counseling, and supporting first responders in managing the unique mental health challenges they face in high-stress environments. The ideal candidate will have experience in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and a strong understanding of the mental health needs specific to emergency service professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments and evaluations of mental health needs for law enforcement officers and firefighters.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions focusing on trauma, stress management, and coping strategies.
- Develop and implement mental health programs and workshops tailored to the specific needs of law enforcement and fire service personnel.
- Collaborate with department heads to create supportive environments that prioritize mental wellness.
- Offer crisis intervention services in emergency situations, providing immediate support and guidance.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines while documenting client interactions and treatment plans.
- Stay informed about the latest research and best practices in mental health, particularly concerning first responders.
- Provide training and resources for departments on mental health awareness, stigma reduction, and wellness strategies.
- Participate in community outreach and education efforts to promote mental health resources available to first responders.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
- Licensure as a Mental Health Professional (e.g., LCSW or LMHC) is required.
- Minimum of two years experience in mental health counseling, preferably with a focus on first responders or similar populations.
- Strong knowledge of the unique stressors and mental health challenges faced by law enforcement and fire service personnel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices and crisis intervention techniques.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and documentation standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in critical incident stress management (CISM) or similar training.
- Experience conducting workshops or training programs for first responders.
- Bilingual proficiency is a plus.
