Job Description

The Mental Health Technician I (MH Tech 1) supports patients from admission to discharge, focusing on safety, milieu interventions, psychoeducational groups, and navigating treatment. The role requires 24-hour patient monitoring and effective communication with the treatment team. Reports to the Facility Manager/Program Director.

Responsibilities

1. Orient new patients and complete assessments within 24 hours of admission.
2. Identify and communicate patient needs to the treatment team and assist accordingly.
3. Monitor patients throughout treatment, ensuring visibility and regular check-ins.
4. Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism and respect.
5. Support treatment plans by providing day-to-day assistance and coping skills.
6. Follow house rules and group schedules to maintain structure.
7. Lead therapeutic groups such as coping skills, relapse prevention, and life skills.
8. Document behaviors thoroughly, maintaining confidentiality.
9. Answer calls politely and transfer inquiries when necessary.
10. Maintain a clean environment and document cleaning activities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Bachelor’s degree or one year of experience in mental health or working with adolescents
• Attendance at all training, education, and staff activities
• Valid driver’s license in good standing
• CPI and CPR/First Aid certification within 90 days of employment
