Mental Health Specialist
FTE: .2 (8 hours per week)
Shift: 7:00AM-3:30PM - Weekend Only - Every Other

Position Summary:
This position provides direct care to patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) and medical director. Delivers assigned, delegated, direct care consistent with the individualized treatment plan. Performs routine care consistent with established standards policies and procedures. Maintains a safe and therapeutic treatment environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collects & reports health data
- Gathers objective data & observations about the patient
- Differentiates between normal & abnormal observations
- Reports changes in patient status or abnormal findings to RN
- Implements established plan of care for each patient
- Understands the plan of care for each assigned patient
- Completes interventions identified on the plan of care
- Delivers delegated aspects of direct care
- Provides care based on the established treatment plan
- Involves patient & involved others in the care process
- Leads Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT), and Wellness Groups in a classroom setting.
- Leads Eating Disorder (EDO) specific groups in the classroom setting and accompanies EDO patients on community outings.
- Engages in individual & purposeful interactions with patients & involved others
- Completes vital signs, and weights
- Monitors patient & environmental safety continuously
- Maintains a calm, healing environment
- Secures patient’s belongings
- Documents in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Completes group notes on assigned groups
- Reflects individual patient’s progress towards treatment goals
- Articulates interventions utilized and responses to the interventions
- Notes are factual and concise
- Obtains RN co-signature for EMR notes
- Demonstrates understanding of current therapeutic techniques
- Participates in learning opportunities to expand intervention options
- Applies learning & experience to patient care
- Responds effectively to escalating behavior
- Observes patients for risk of aggressive behavior
- Identifies early behavioral changes indicating escalation
- Engages with patients exhibiting early behavioral changes
- Applies alternatives to physical intervention
- Provides information to patients & families
- Presents information utilizing age-specific principles
- Reviews comprehension of information
- Facilitates customer satisfaction
- Resolves customer service issues within available options
- Refers complex issues to charge nurse or manager
- Initiates emergency actions when necessary
- Identifies and responds to emergency situations
- Participates in quality improvement processes
- Completes monitors for assigned indicators
- Reports situations impacting patient safety
- Implements actions to improve quality & compliance
- Participates in organization-wide quality measures
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field with 6 months of mental health experience, or
- Associate Degree in Mental Health Technology with five years of mental health experience
- Ability to facilitate groups effectively
- Flexible eating and diet behavior to eat with patients with Eating Disorder diagnoses
- Willingness to work early morning or evening hours 1–3 days a week for meals, outings, or volunteer activities with Eating Disorder patients
- Knowledge and skills for providing age-specific and developmentally appropriate care
- Ability to align with Lindner Center of HOPE’s mission, vision, and values
Physical Requirements:
Position involves typical office environment activities, including occasional lifting, manual dexterity, and communication abilities. Candidates must pass background checks and fingerprinting as per Ohio regulations and company policies.
