Job summary

Inova Fairfax Hospital Nursing Float Pool is seeking a Mental Health Technician 2 to join the team. This full-time position covers Day or Night shifts (3 x 12-hour shifts: 6:00–18:00 or 18:00–06:00) with rotating weekends, in Virginia.

The role involves supervising education needs, patient support for activities of daily living, and serving as a unit preceptor to ensure competencies. BLS certification is required at start.

Qualifications

• Education: High School or GED.
• Experience: Two (2) years as MH Technician 1/Clinical Technician 1 at Inova Health System or two (2) years as psychiatric technician elsewhere.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association, on start

Responsibilities

• Assists unit leadership with oversight of the unit's Mental Health Technician education needs/compliance.
• Provides individualized patient support for activities of daily living including bathing, feeding, bed making and measurement of vital signs and intake/output.
• Provides information to patients, families and visitors which may include orients patients to the unit/program, explains rationale for rules or restrictions and provides printed information.
• Serves as a resource and unit preceptor for all new Mental Health Technicians. Works with the unit leadership to ensure Mental Health Technicians have current competencies and skills to perform their work.

• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association- upon start

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous inpatient behavioral health experience, espeically a variety of units/departments
