Job summary

Universal Hospital Services Inc. is seeking a Mental Health Technician for the Southeast Behavioral Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.

The role provides patient care, supervision and role modeling under a Registered Nurse, supporting adolescent to geriatric patients with mental health needs. Two years of related psychiatric experience and a valid driver's license are preferred; mandatory training includes MBAT/Handle with Care, CPR certification, and 75 hours classroom plus 100 hours practicum.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Degree or equivalent required; Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
• Experience: Two years of related experience in psychiatric patient care preferred.
• Licensure: Valid driver's license required.
• Additional Requirements: MBAT/Handle with Care training and CPR certification required; 75 hours classroom and 100 hours practicum; weekend/overtime flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous patient care, supervision, interaction and role modeling to patients aged from adolescents through geriatrics.
• Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse as part of the treatment team.
• Support safety and behavioral management as part of the patient care plan.

Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction and role modeling to patients ranging in ages from adolescents through geriatrics. All MHT’s work under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Degree or equivalent required; Certified Nursing Assistant preferred

Experience: Two (2) years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Licensure: Must maintain a valid driver’s license in the applicable state.

Additional Requirements: Successful completion Management Aggressive Behavior Training, Handle with Care, Service Excellence Training and CPR certification required. MHT’s must successfully complete 75 hours of classroom/computer based instruction and 100 hours of supervised clinical practicum. MHT’s may be required to work weekends, overtime and have flexible hours.
