Job Summary
The Mental Health Technician II provides delegated components of nursing care to patients, including monitoring, specimen collection, psycho-education, assistance with activities of daily living, and behavior management, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Care is based on defined standards of patient care and practice.
Essential Functions
- Observes and monitors patient’s status according to standards, policies, and procedures, including vital signs, weight, intake/output, dietary intake, rounds sheets, behavioral logs, admission checklists, and other notes. Reports patient complaints or concerns promptly.
- Provides verbal and written updates to nursing staff through ongoing reporting and shift handovers to prioritize patient needs and care.
- Delivers skilled patient care such as orientation, transportation, de-escalation, teaching coping and conflict resolution skills, specimen collection, assistance with activities of daily living, admission/discharge procedures, response to codes, and SCM techniques.
- Evaluates patient and family responses to interventions and reports changes in condition to the nurse.
- Leads psycho-educational groups and other care activities consistent with Personal Intervention Plans.
Shift Requirements
Shift Length: 8 or 12 hours
Shifts per week: 3-5 depending on shift length
Overtime: Infrequently required
Other Responsibilities
- Maintains professional development including certifications and CEUs.
- Ensures compliance with company policies and standards.
- Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent plus 2 years social service experience (1 year in direct patient care);
- 60+ college credits in a social services field plus 1-year direct patient care experience;
- Bachelor’s Degree in a social services field (preferred, but not required) with direct patient care experience.
