Job Description Summary

The Mental Health Technician II provides delegated components of nursing care to patients, including monitoring, specimen collection, psycho-education, assistance with activities of daily living, and behavior management, in accordance with physician orders and established nursing policies and procedures. Care is based on defined standards of patient care and practice.

Essential Functions:
  1. Observe and monitor patient’s status according to standards, policies, and procedures, including vital signs, weight logs, intake/output, dietary intake, rounds sheets, behavioral logs, admission checklists, or other notes. Report patient complaints of pain or concerns promptly.
  2. Provide verbal and written input to nursing staff via ongoing reporting and end-of-shift reports to prioritize patient needs and care.
  3. Provide skilled patient care related to: orientation to the unit; transportation; de-escalation; teaching coping skills, conflict resolution, problem solving; specimen collection; assistance with activities of daily living; admission & discharge procedures; response to codes; and use of SCM techniques.
  4. Observe and evaluate patient/family response to interventions continuously and report changes in condition to the nurse.
  5. Lead patient psycho-educational groups and other care activities on the unit that align with Personal Intervention Plans used on the specialty units.
Shift Requirements

Shift Length: 8 or 12 hours

# Shifts/Week: 3-5 depending on shift length

Overtime: Infrequently required

Other Functions:
  • Maintain professional development, certifications, CEUs, and related education.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Ensure confidentiality by complying with HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have one of the following education and work experience combinations:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent plus 2 years of social service experience, including 1 year in direct patient care.
  • 60+ college credits in a social services field plus 1-year direct patient care experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a social services field; direct patient care experience is preferred but not required.
