Job summary

Gulfport Behavioral Health System, a UHS facility, is seeking a Mental Health Technician to join the nursing treatment team. Provide continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling for patients from children to geriatrics on the assigned unit. Shifts are 8 hours from 7:00am to 3:00pm.

Education: high school degree preferred; degree in a therapeutic discipline desirable. CPR and CPI training required; valid driver's license. Pre-employment assessment completed.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Degree or equivalent preferred.
• Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline desirable.

Gulfport Behavioral Health System, is a 92-bed psychiatric hospital offering child, adolescent, adult and military service behavioral health programs and treatment services.

Position Summary:

Join a team where the Mental Health Technician (MHT) functions as an active part of the nursing treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in age from children through geriatrics depending on which unit worked. MHT's work under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Mental Health Tech shifts are 8 hour shifts and this position will be from 7:00am to 3:00pm.

Qualifications

Education: High School Degree or equivalent preferred. Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline desirable.

Experience: One year of related experience, with a knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Licensure: Must maintain a valid driver's license in the applicable state.

Additional Requirements: Successful achievement of pre-employment online assessment. Successful completion of CPR and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training. Certifications may be obtain during new hire orientation. May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.
