Job summary

Suncoast Behavioral Health Center in Bradenton, FL seeks a dedicated Mental Health Technician to support adolescents in residential treatment, supervise activities, and assess social and clinical status. You will help ensure patient safety, apply least restrictive interventions, and promote therapeutic boundaries in daily care.

The role offers a 3:00 PM–11:30 PM shift, every other weekend, a $1,200 sign-on bonus, benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, and tuition

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or related field.
• Preferred six months of experience in residential psychiatry or similar setting.
• Must pass Level 2 Background Screening and pre-employment drug test.
• Must read, understand, and follow policies and treatment plans.
• Maintain therapeutic distance and boundaries with clients.
• CPR Certification required prior to assisting with restraining procedures.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Physical ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) performs direct patient care duties in a residential behavioral health setting. The Mental Health Technician is responsible for supervising the patient in treatment, recreation, educational settings, and other activities of daily living to assess changes in their social behaviors and clinical status. MHT’s have the primary responsibility for ensuring the patient’s safety in the facility. MHT's are responsible for understanding and using the least restrictive interventions per facility policy and successfully avoid seclusion and restraint whenever possible.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

• High school graduate or GED required.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or related field preferred (increase in wages).
• Preferred six month’s experience in residential psychiatry or other childcare facility/agency experience in comparable position.
• Must be able to pass a Level 2 Background Screening to work in Healthcare (AHCA) and Pre‑employment Drug Test.

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to set and maintain therapeutic distance with clients; maintain therapeutic boundaries during treatment and following discharge.
• Must be able to read, understand, and follow: policies, procedures, and written treatment plans.

• May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
• Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of Handle with Care prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and within 7 days of employment.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

• Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping.
