Job summary

Horizon Health Behavioral Health Services in Murray, KY seeks a Mental Health Technician (Associate Degree) for the day shift in an inpatient behavioral health unit. The role involves supervising patients, recording observations, and supporting nursing staff in a 12-bed geriatric unit.

The MHT provides direct care, escorts patients, monitors vitals, and assists with personal needs, therapy, and safety checks. CPR certification and teamwork are essential for this demanding position.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required.
• 1–3 years of related experience preferred.
• CPR certification required.
• Crisis prevention experience.
• Ability to manage anger, fear, hostility and aggression in others.
• Ability to manage stress appropriately.
• Proficient in applicable software applications.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Attend to patient personal needs (hygiene, toileting, bathing, dressing, transferring).
• Escort and monitor patients during admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Record vital signs and document observations per policy.
• Conduct therapies aligned with patient’s diagnosis and needs.
• Check luggage and personal belongings on admission.
• Perform clerical duties (charts, forms, supplies).
• Monitor and document nutrition and fluid intake; assist feeding.
• Complete 15-minute visual checks or as directed.
• Provide compassionate emotional and psychological support to patients and families.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.
