Description
I) Job Purpose
This Mental Health Specialist delivers comprehensive services to clients in the community, aiding in addiction or mental health recovery. They assist the Program Manager, ensuring organized documentation and providing administrative support. As the initial point of contact for clients, they create a welcoming environment, offer information, supplies, and travel assistance, contributing significantly to the team's functioning. Flexible days and hours may be required to meet community needs, with the team sharing on-call responsibilities.
II) Essential Functions
- Provide excellent customer service at the clinic front desk by greeting and assisting patients seeking services.
- Process patient documentation, answer questions, and update patients on appointment status.
- Monitor lobby activity, troubleshoot patient issues, and provide crisis intervention if necessary.
- Handle phone calls, transfer them to appropriate staff or departments, and understand and implement triage procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinic lobby, ensure availability of patient educational material, and address patients' needs.
- Assist with scheduling, tracking team activities, documentation, and checkout procedures.
- Schedule follow-up appointments for providers, accept, scan, and route patient documents, and verify that patients have received all necessary services before checking them out from the clinic.

III) Knowledge Of Laws, Regulations, Policies/Procedures, Skills, And Abilities
- Applicable sections of Texas Administrative Code, Third Party Payer Requirements, Mental Health Code, Medicaid Procedures, Compliance Plan, HIPPA, and applicable Federal standards.
- Demonstrate skill in developing productive relationships with patients, service providers, and peers.
- Ability to develop/help develop and organize training materials.
- Ability to cope with and assist others in coping with frustration and flexibility in meeting organizational workload demands.
- Ability to analyze facts and devise solutions to system problems.
- Ability to work independently, organize work efficiently, and prioritize workload demands.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to directly interact with patients.
IV) Internal & External Customer Service
- This position requires extensive internal and external contacts. The employee will accomplish this with advanced written and verbal skills.
- Must demonstrate compassion, trauma-informed care, and safety practices including suicide safe care.
- Travel
- Adhere to MHMR Mileage and Travel reimbursement policy and any other aspect regarding travel.
- This position may require some travel between MHMR of Tarrant County clinics and other sites.

VIII) Agency Requirements
- All staff are required to participate in agency Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Safety programs and may be assigned by their department as a key/essential staff level function during critical events or for the purpose of sustaining business continuity.
- This position may require temporary or permanent re‑assignment to any MHMR Tarrant facility as determined by program needs and/or the Division/Director.
- Assigned work hours may change as the needs of the agency change.
- The Functional Title of this position may change as the needs of the agency change.
- All work will be completed within the scheduled work hours. All non‑exempt (hourly) employees are expected to clock in and clock out for each work shift, no work should be done off the clock.
- MHMR reserves the right to change, add to or eliminate positions as it deems appropriate.
- Employment is at will, as well as agency needs may change.
- Agency dress code is to be followed at all times.
- Physical on-site presence, including regular attendance and punctuality, is an essential function of this position. Any changes or adjustments to your assigned work schedule or shift hours must be approved by your supervisor in advance.
