HOURLY PAY RANGE: $22.27 - $23.40

Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. (Plaza) is a comprehensive early childhood education program with a focus on school readiness for children zero to five years of age. Developmentally appropriate services are provided for children from low-income families, zero to five years of age. Plaza de la Raza currently serves over 650 children and their families.
Under general direction of the Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinator, assists in the implementation of services for children with disabilities and/or suspected of having a disability, establishing the most effective way for the needs of the children and their families to be met, and ensuring a smooth transition from Early Head Start to Head Start and Head Start to the public school. The Mental Health and Disability Aide also assists the Mental Health and Disability Coordinator in implementing mental health services and links families to resources.
General direction and supervision is provided by the Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinator.
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Knowledge of:
Must have knowledge of: the referral process to the Local Education Agencies (LEAs); the assessment of children who have potential disabilities; Individualized Education Plan (IEPs) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) processes; Parents' Rights in special education.
Ability to:
Must demonstrate the ability to: read, write and understand work-related material; work with children and families from diverse populations; effectively communicate with children and families, and find ways to communicate with them in their native language. Must have the ability to: understand and implement the referral process; travel at any given time, to the Head Start/Early Head Start centers, community agencies, Individual Education Program (I.E.P.), and Individualized Family Service Plan (I.F.S.P.) meetings; perform clerical skills such as filing, record-keeping, follow-up, documentation, computer data entry; collaborate effectively with other areas, in a multidisciplinary approach; interpret special education material, (i.e., Individual Education Programs/Individualized Family Service Plans and assessment reports) for intervention, follow-up, and referral purposes.
Education:
High school graduation or G.E.D. equivalent is required. An Associate’s degree in child development, social services, liberal arts, or psychology is highly preferred. Some coursework or training in social sciences and working with persons with disabilities is desirable.
Experience:
Two years of work experience working with children with disabilities and/or behavioral problems on an individual or group basis is desirable.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

5. Not employ methods of discipline that involve isolations, the used of food as punishment or reward, or the denial of basic needs.
6. Not solicit or accept personal gratuities, favors or anything of significant monetary value form contractors or potential contractors.
7. Maintain respect and promote professional relationships with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), families, staff and children.
8. Refrain from the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use of alcoholic beverage, controlled substance, and tobacco products in the workplace or at any activity funded by federal or state funds.
9. Maintain adherence to LACOE, state, or federal mandates, including but not limited to program eligibility determination regulations for Early Head Start, Head Start or state preschool services.
10. Enrolling pregnant women and children that are not eligible to receive Early Head Start or Head Start services.
