Job description

Mental Health Therapist – Resident in Counseling

Full-Time or Part-Time | Hybrid | Springfield, VA

Build Your Clinical Career With the Right Support

Your residency should be more than accumulating hours toward licensure.

At Soar Therapy & Integrative Wellness, we are looking for Virginia Residents in Counseling who want to become thoughtful, confident, highly skilled therapists. You'll receive consistent supervision, clinical training, opportunities to develop specialty skills, and the structure and support needed to grow your caseload and your clinical confidence.

We are an outpatient mental health and wellness practice serving adolescents ages 13+ and adults throughout Northern Virginia. Our approach combines evidence-based psychotherapy with culturally responsive, whole-person care that considers relationships, life experiences, attachment, and the nervous system.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide individual psychotherapy to adolescents (13+) and adults.
  • Conduct clinical intakes, assess client needs, and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Use evidence-based and integrative interventions based on each client's presenting needs and treatment goals.
  • Monitor client progress and make clinically appropriate decisions regarding treatment frequency and level of care.
  • Incorporate supervision and feedback into your clinical work and professional development.
  • Maintain professional and timely communication with clients, supervisors, and our administrative team.
  • Follow practice standards related to documentation, scheduling, cancellations, continuity of care, and client transitions.
  • Have opportunities to participate in groups, workshops, community outreach, and program development.
The Clinician We’re Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you are reflective, relational, clinically curious, and committed to becoming an excellent therapist.

We’re Especially Interested In Clinicians Who
  • Enjoy working with adolescents and adults.
  • Have experience or strong interest in trauma, attachment, anxiety, depression, ADHD, emotional regulation, and relationship concerns.
  • Have training or experience in CBT or DBT.
  • Are interested in ACT, mindfulness, somatic approaches, or EMDR, as well as evidence-based and integrative modalities.
  • Are curious about the relationship between trauma, attachment, and the nervous system.
  • Value thoughtful treatment planning and high-quality clinical documentation.
  • Welcome direct, supportive feedback and use supervision to strengthen clinical judgment.
  • Are dependable, organized, responsive, and follow through on commitments.
  • Enjoy structure and accountability while still having room to develop your own clinical identity.
  • Want to contribute to a team rather than simply work alongside one.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Counseling or a related field that meets Virginia residency requirements.
  • Current Virginia Resident in Counseling status or eligibility to begin residency in Virginia.
  • Experience providing psychotherapy to adolescents and/or adults.
  • Working knowledge of clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and documentation.
  • Experience or training in CBT and DBT preferred.
  • Trauma-informed clinical experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to ethical and culturally responsive clinical practice.

  • Availability within one of these scheduling blocks:

Is Soar the Right Fit for You?

If you enjoy structure and accountability, value collaboration, and want to become a stronger clinician, we'd love to hear from you.
