CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS

Under the general supervision of the human resources director, and working in concert with the wellness coordinator, the mental health coordinator is responsible for development and execution of mental health resources and education. This position is dedicated to delivering advanced professional education focused on behavioral health and emotional wellness for agency employees.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Develop and deliver behavioral health and emotional wellness training; create materials; and promote Employee Assistance Program utilization.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and external mental health providers, hospitals, and community agencies.
  • Serve in an on-call capacity to provide emergency response, critical incident support, and supervisory consultation.
  • Provide confidential supportive services, early identification of concerns, and referrals to appropriate community-based providers.
  • Utilize screening tools and structured interviews to assess needs and risk factors without providing clinical counseling or treatment.
  • Assist during crisis situations by offering on-scene and post-incident support, resource linkage, and follow-up for traumatic events.
  • Coordinate and support wellness programs, peer support activities, spouse and family education, retiree transition support, and family preparedness training.
  • Maintain a network of referral sources and activate services based on assessed needs.
  • Participate in research initiatives, attend professional workshops, and maintain compliance with ethical, legal, and professional standards.
  • Assist with program budgeting, reporting, and coordination in collaboration with the Wellness Coordinator and Human Resources.
QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, or other behavioral, mental health related field from an accredited institution.
  • Three to five years’ experience in clinical assessment, therapy or crisis intervention is required preferably in a clinical, law enforcement, public safety, corrections, substance abuse services, or similar incident environment; experience must demonstrate skill in interviewing, clinical assessment, and counseling techniques
  • A combination of education and direct and relevant experience may be considered.
Special Requirements

*Professional licensures and certifications must be maintained throughout employment*:

  • Certified Mental Health First Aid Adult & Public Safety & Children
  • FDLE Instructor Certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of a broad range of Mental health topics and a commitment to behavioral wellness and the promotion of life learning.
  • Contemporaneous knowledge in current health, wellness, and behavioral research.
  • Knowledge of current Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other software as required.
  • Ability to establish relationships with administrators and employees to promote participation in mental health programs, and to motivate them.
  • Ability to conduct benchmarking analysis, and environment and culture assessments to aid in program development.
  • Ability to act as a liaison to gather ideas and sponsor events (such as an annual Benefits Fair and mental health classes).
  • Ability to work with the Employee Assistance Program, insurance carriers and others to increase employee participation in mental health programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidential documents and information and keep abreast of HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to integrate Mental Health program initiatives into culture and organizational mission.
  • Ability to appear and perform as scheduled for work, conferences, and other assigned tasks.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds
