Description

Mental Health Clinician (P/T), HVIP

Report to: Manager/Clinician, HVIP

SUMMARY

In partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, the Hospital Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) is a comprehensive case management and evidence-based trauma-informed mental health counseling/ services for patients who are injured victims of community violence. HVIP aims to improve patient’s outcome and reduce future victimization through comprehensive counseling and evidence–based mental health services and linkages between services for crime victims.

Reporting to the HVIP Manager/Clinician, the part-time HVIP Mental Health Clinician is a masters-level LSW/LAC, who adheres to the NASW clinical and ethical guidelines. S/he is responsible for providing counseling and mental health services for victims of violence and their families as needed for both individual and group settings. S/he develops treatment plans in conjunction with program participants and establishes a baseline of services under the supervision of the PRAB LCSW clinician. S/he collaborates with the HVIP case management team to ensure that the patient’s treatment plan and needs are being met. S/he maintains electronic, physical records and provide monthly reports as per PRAB & HVIP guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

Mental Health Clinician

1. Clinical Assessment and Intervention:

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for patients referred to HVIP.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings.
  • Provide trauma-informed counseling and therapeutic interventions to patients and their families.

2. Crisis Intervention:

  • Offer immediate crisis intervention and support to patients experiencing acute distress.
  • Coordinate with medical staff to ensure holistic care and safety of patients.

3. Case Management:

  • Assist clients in accessing community resources and follow-up services with support from RWJUH HVIP team and other PRAB staff.

4. Advocacy and Support:

  • Advocate for the needs and rights of patients within the healthcare system and community.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families about the impact of trauma and violence.

5. Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Collaborate with hospital staff, social workers, and community partners to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review cases and coordinate care.
  • Work with RWJUH HVIP team members to determine client progress regarding their case management and to adjust treatment plans as necessary.

6. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient interactions and interventions.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.

7. Training and Education:

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training related to trauma and violence intervention.
  • Provide training and support to hospital staff on trauma-informed care practices.

General

  • Represent PRAB in external meetings and events, and engage community and program participants
  • Conduct, attend, and participate in internal meetings to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Attend external workshops and in-service training provided by funders, etc.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual HVIP program progress reports (both internal and external)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by HVIP Manager/Clinician and/or Chief Program Officer

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience working with individuals in clinical settings
  • Pass all required criminal background checks
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications/platforms and database environments
  • Demonstrated involvement in community service or action organizations, and advocacy efforts
  • Demonstrated cultural competence as it relates to community work and collaboration
  • Demonstrated maturity, integrity, and sound judgment
  • Proven ability to communicate with parents effectively
  • Proven ability to follow standard filing procedures
  • Proven ability to work well with diverse groups
  • Proven ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
  • Proven ability to create an atmosphere of positive and appropriate discipline
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines within time constraints
  • Ability to work effectively in inter-departmental, inter-disciplinary team settings
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a fast paced, highly interactive staff
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly recommended

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Regularly stand, sit, and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell
  • Generally, works in an office environment but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting

Compensation and Hours

  • This is a part-time, non-exempt, hourly position.
  • Salary is based on a pre-established range and is commensurate with experience.
  • Flexible hybrid schedule that may include early evening and weekend work hours.
  • Primarily local travel during business as needed.
  • Eligible for some PRAB benefits, including sick days.
