You will deliver therapeutic services to youth in a school-based setting, including outreach and education on mental health, substance use, and wellness topics relevant to the community. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting children and adolescents, especially those with significant trauma histories.

Description

Reporting to the school leader and receiving coaching from the clinical supervisor, the Mental Health Clinician will provide psychotherapeutic interventions, behavioral supports, and mental health treatment services such as counseling, consultation, and case management for students receiving Educationally Related Mental Health Services or general counseling.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Provide culturally responsive, MTSS-aligned school-based mental health and substance abuse services, including individual, group, and family therapy, crisis intervention, assessment, treatment planning, and consultation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop tailored interventions addressing students’ educational, mental health, and behavioral needs.
  • Conduct outreach and education on mental health topics to students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Maintain accurate administrative and treatment records in accordance with standards, using electronic health records and SEIS.
  • Participate in training, student services meetings, crisis interventions, and collaborate with community social service agencies for student referrals.
  • May oversee counseling interns from outside agencies.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned, avoiding non-counseling tasks that could hinder therapeutic relationships.
Qualifications

Experience: Minimum one year (preferably 2+) of post-master’s experience in school-based mental health and substance abuse services; community mental health experience is a plus.

Education: Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field. Valid registration (AMFT, ASW, APCC) with BBS, or licensure (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC). Candidates under the BBS 90-Day rule with submitted applications within 90 days of graduation may be considered.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Understanding of community behavioral health systems and special education processes (highly preferred).
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services.
  • Strong commitment to equity, anti-racism, trauma-informed care, and client-centered practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and professional skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations, manage time effectively, and maintain boundaries.
Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands

Physical: Ability to navigate school campuses, sit for long periods, and lift equipment up to 20 lbs.

Mental: Ability to work under deadlines, analyze problems, and handle interruptions.
