Job summary

New Jersey Institute of Technology is seeking an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach to support recruitment, training, and in-game coaching under the Head Men's Basketball Coach. You will help with practice organization, player development, game planning, and compliance with NCAA rules and conference bylaws.

The role also involves coordinating travel and scheduling, maintaining safety standards, and representing the program to university constituents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Three to five years experience collegiate coaching or high level prep or AAU basketball.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students required.
• Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty.
• Knowledge of applicable team or individual sport and its playing rule.
• Must possess the ability to foster a cooperative environment.
• Must be able to organize and coordinate.
• Must have knowledge of NCAA rules.
• Must have the ability to understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
• Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Computer proficiency.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assists in organizing, preparing and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition preparation
• Assists in the identification and recruitment of prospective student‑athletes for the men's intercollegiate basketball program, in accordance with America East & NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines and institutional admissions standards
• Assist with player development. Under supervision of the Head Coach, develop training methods to improve the overall skill development of players both in/out of season.
• Assist in coordinating training and practice sessions, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained
• Assist with game scouting of opponents and preparation of game plan
• Support The Learning Center’s initiatives in monitoring and advising of the program’s student‑athletes. Promote a program culture of academic success and degree progress.
• Provides assistance in the coordination and administration of the program as required by assisting with scheduling & travel arrangements
• Represents the sports program to various institutional programs and to government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public
• Maintain current health care certifications. (First Aid, CPR/AED)
