Responsibilities

  • Provide information about the YMCA mission to members through tours, meetings and education.

  • Answer phones and provide accurate information about membership and programs.
  • Make follow-up calls, emails and mail to potential, new or terminated members.
  • Assist in annual campaign promotion and special events.
  • Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions; report accidents and hazards.
  • Assist with monthly return drafts; run reports and flag past-due accounts.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Membership Representative, working as part of the Membership Service Team, will deliver professional customer service, relationship building and sales skills to create a welcoming environment. This position will additionally provide in-depth information regarding the YMCA of Kokomo, such as memberships, programs, activities and special events. The Membership Experience Representative will assist with the attraction and retention of members for organizational growth.

Essential Functions
  • Build strong and intentional relationships with members and prospective members to foster engagement, satisfaction and retention.
  • Collaborate with program and wellness staff to communicate program offerings and promotions.
  • Assist with the creation and execution of membership, promotional and sales goals.
  • Assist with troubleshooting any problems with membership software, membership questions/special exceptions and billing arrangements.
  • Provide information about the mission of the Y to existing and prospective members through tours, meetings, conversations and other educational opportunities.
  • When appropriate, make recommendations on ways to connect Y members and program participants to new, enriching experiences at the Y and in the community.
  • Answer phones, direct calls, and provide accurate information about membership and programs being offered at the YMCA.
  • Make follow‑up phone calls, emails and direct mail correspondence to potential, new or terminated members.
  • Assist in the Y’s annual campaign promotion and special events.
  • Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follow procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents and hazards.
  • Assist with taking care of monthly return drafts. Run reports, call, email, and flag accounts for past‑due balances.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and problem‑solving skills required.
  • Ability to actively listen.
  • Have the ability to multi‑task and work well in a team setting and be detail oriented.
  • Have the ability to reconcile shift transactions when needed.
  • Ability to relate effectively do diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  • Completed Praesidium Academy Child Abuse Prevention training and Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens training prior to first day of employment.
  • Completion of YMCA program‑specific certifications where necessary.
