Job summary

Jobtailor is hiring for a senior software engineer to design and operate Python microservices and gRPC APIs that expose high-performance C++ engines. You will build front-end features with React/TypeScript, implement end-to-end logic, and help scale distributed systems with observability and autoscaling.

The role involves debugging across frontend, Python, and native components, plus contributing to CI/CD pipelines, testing, and on-call incident response.

Qualifications

• 5+ years professional software engineering experience building backend or full-stack systems.
• Strong experience with Python service development (sync/async) and building/consuming gRPC/protobuf APIs.
• Practical PostgreSQL experience including schema design, safe migrations, query tuning, indexing, and production query optimization.
• Practical experience with React or equivalent modern frontend framework, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and shipping UI changes to production.
• Experience distributing compute with MPI, task queues, or job schedulers; knowledge of Kubernetes, Slurm, or HPC schedulers preferred.
• Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry) and secure frontend/backend interactions preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate Python-based microservices and gRPC APIs exposing native C++ engines and simulation pipelines.
• Implement UI changes for customer-facing React apps using TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Handle end-to-end logic including request validation, job orchestration, retries, and transactional correctness.
• Help design distributed systems with partitioning, backpressure, observability, and autoscaling.
• Debug and profile frontend, Python runtime, and native C++ performance.
• Build CI/CD pipelines and automated tests across backend, frontend, and native components.
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and post-mortems; maintain runbooks.
• Collaborate with product, QA, infra, and customer success to deliver secure, documented features.
• Mentor teammates and contribute to code reviews and engineering best practices.

Job description

• Design, implement, and operate Python-based microservices and gRPC APIs exposing native C++ engines and simulation/inference pipelines
• Implement small-to-medium UI changes for customer-facing React applications using TypeScript/JavaScript and HTML/CSS
• Implement end-to-end application logic including request validation, job orchestration, retries/idempotency, transactional correctness, and customer SDKs/APIs
• Help design and operate distributed systems with job partitioning, backpressure, retries, observability, and autoscaling
• Debug and profile frontend, network, Python runtime, and native C++ performance
• Build CI/CD pipelines and automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests across backend, frontend, and native components
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and post-mortems; maintain runbooks and operational dashboards
• Collaborate with product, QA, infrastructure, and customer success to deliver usable, secure, and documented features
• Mentor teammates and contribute to code reviews and engineering best practices

Requirements

• 5+ years professional software engineering experience building backend or full-stack systems
• Strong experience with Python service development (sync/async) and building/consuming gRPC/protobuf APIs
• Practical PostgreSQL experience including schema design, safe migrations, query tuning, indexing, and production query optimization
• Practical experience with React or equivalent modern frontend framework, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and shipping UI changes to production
• Good knowledge of concurrency and multi-threaded programming, including concurrency across language boundaries
• Experience working in large codebases with testing, CI/CD, code review, and documentation practices
• Strong communication skills and appetite for end-to-end ownership of customer-facing features
• Experience exposing native C++ features to Python (pybind11, CFFI) preferred
• Familiarity with EDA/layout or domain file formats (OAS, GDS, ECXML, STL, STEP) preferred
• Experience distributing compute with MPI, task queues, or job schedulers; knowledge of Kubernetes, Slurm, or HPC schedulers preferred
• GPU acceleration experience (CUDA/ROCm) or integrating GPU-accelerated C++ libraries preferred
• Knowledge of binary serialization, zero-copy techniques, and high-performance I/O (io_uring) preferred
• Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, structured logging, tracing) preferred
• Experience with authentication patterns (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS) and secure frontend/backend interactions preferred
• Knowledge of Linux internals and debugging preferred
