Job summary

Gerdau is seeking a Melt Shop Supervisor to lead the assigned melt shop, oversee electric furnace operation, refractory activities, and continuous casting. You will supervise hourly staff and collaborate with the General Supervisor to optimize production flow.

Responsibilities include training personnel, ensuring safety and environmental compliance, and maintaining accurate heat logs and production reports. Strong experience in steelmaking and heavy equipment operation is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in steelmaking methods and techniques.
• Basic metallurgical knowledge; broad melt shop background.
• Experience in ARC Furnace and continuous casting operations.
• Operation of cranes and other heavy equipment.
• Ability to diagnose and oversee repair of breakdown maintenance problems.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe, efficient production of steel with optimal quality at lowest cost.
• Direct melting personnel in coordination with Maintenance Supervisor.
• Oversee Melt Shop maintenance and repair activities.
• Instruct and train personnel in melting process procedures.
• Ensure compliance with environmental guidelines.
• Complete furnace heat logs and production/supervisory reports.
• Communicate shift status and issues to supervisors and laboratory for chemical analysis.
• Address equipment failures, scrap issues, and housekeeping to maintain workflow.
• Lead safety programs and personnel selection/training.
