Job summary

Nucor in Apple Grove, WV seeks an Automation Engineer to lead level 1/2 automation for steel melt plant operations. You will design, test, and implement automation for EAF, LF, and VTD, develop software, and ensure safety and reliability through lifecycle maintenance and documentation.

Responsibilities include performing FAT/STARTUP, configuring PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA, and training operators and technicians while adhering to ISO and IEC standards for safe, efficient melt shop operations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering required.
Experience with functional description review, FAT and start-up of automation systems.
Experience programming PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, robotics, and hydraulic controls.
Experience implementing automation for EAF, LF, and VTD processes.
Experience using IBA-Analyzer to analyze event logs and improve automation performance.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement procedures for automated machinery and processes in the steel melt shop.
Program, test, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, robotics, and control systems.
Ensure compliance with ISO 13849-1, ANSI/ASSE Z244.1, IEC 61131-3.
Provide training and knowledge transfer to operators and maintenance technicians.
Support FAT, Start Up, and functional reviews for new automation systems.
