Job summary

Elyria & Hodge Foundries is seeking a Melt Shop Operator in Elyria, Ohio. The role involves maintaining ladles, supporting furnace operations, and ensuring production conformity. This full-time, hourly position requires working in extreme heat and operating cranes and forklifts.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, knowledge of machines, and experience inspecting equipment. The environment includes indoor and outdoor conditions requiring physical activity and the ability to lift items up to 50 lbs.

Job description

Position: Melt Shop Operator (1 openings on each shift)

• 1st shift starts at 5am
• 3rd shift starts at 8pm

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Repairs and maintains ladles in use in the melt shop
• Support the Operation and loading of furnaces with scrap iron utilizing overhead crane to a specified temperature for processing.
• Help Monitor and regulate temperature controls and heating time.
• Assist in Identifying, measuring and adding alloys to ladle iron pouring preparation.
• Collaborate with the manufacturing team to ensure production conformity.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses and maintenance as well as using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
• Experience inspecting equipment, structures or materials to identify the cause of errors or defects.
• Ability to work in and around extreme heat.
• Experience operating crane and forklift.
• High school diploma or GED.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

• Handle moving objects: Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning and moving materials.
• The ability to see details at close and distant range with depth perception and the ability to see colors.
• Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking stooping and handling materials.
• Indoor and outdoor climate conditions during all seasons and in varying temperatures.
• Ability to lift items up to 50 lbs.

Job Type: Full Time. Hourly, non-exempt.
