Job summary

The KARL STORZ team in the Houston area is seeking a Sustaining Engineering Manager to lead product sustaining activities from concept through manufacturing release. You will coordinate engineering changes, manage cross-functional teams including product management, manufacturing, quality, and purchasing, and ensure regulatory compliance and timely delivery.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years leading hardware/software projects, experience with Stage-Gate processes, and strong communication skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years leading hardware and/or software projects.
• Experience with Stage-Gate or structured product development processes.
• Strong project leadership and team management.
• Ability to mentor and motivate cross-functional teams.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead sustaining activities from concept through manufacturing release.
• Oversee engineering changes, feasibility studies, and validation.
• Manage multiple change projects, schedules, budgets, and resources.
• Partner with Product Management to align plans and costs.
• Define strategies, allocate resources, and set milestones.
• Ensure all deliverables are incorporated and on schedule.
• Assign Technical Leads for software and hardware programs.
• Communicate schedules, risks, and milestones to stakeholders.
• Oversee SAP structures and Bills of Materials management.
• Coordinate long-lead material planning with Purchasing.
• Identify and qualify suppliers as needed.
• Lead risk assessment and mitigation throughout projects.
• Ensure regulatory submissions documentation is complete.
• Transfer knowledge to Manufacturing during production launches.
• Monitor post-release performance and drive improvements.
• Present status and recommendations to senior leadership.
