We are hiring for: Medication Technician

Type: Regular

The Certified Medication Technician specializes in administering medication to supported individuals. Their primary responsibility is to ensure that supported individuals receive their prescribed medications accurately and safely.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer medications to supported individuals according to the prescribed dosage, route, and frequency; following established protocols and guidelines to ensure the safe and effective delivery of medications.
  • Monitor supported individuals for any adverse reactions or side effects to medications.
  • Promptly report any concerns or changes in a patient's condition to the appropriate medical personnel.
  • Maintain detailed records of medication administration, including the dosage administered, time, route, and any observations or reactions noted in the electronic MARs.
  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate individual care.
  • Assist with medication reconciliation, inventory management, and medication storage in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures related to medication administration and individual safety.
  • Maintain competency through ongoing training and certification renewal.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing medication safety, reducing errors, and improving patient outcomes.
  • Review all medication expiration dates to ensure they are not expired.
  • Email pharmacy directly if any medication is missing or needed by referencing the MAR.
  • Schedule, coordinate and take individuals to doctor appointments and communicate to appropriate personnel.
  • Track all physical, health care, dental, and vision appointments.
  • Maintain filing of doctors’ orders in the office and distribute copies to the group homes for filing.
  • All other duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO: IDD Day Program Manager

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Capable of successfully performing physical behavior interventions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Basic computer skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regularly required to lift 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to pull a minimum of 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop.
  • Must be able to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Required to regularly stand and walk.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in CPR from the floor level requiring to work on hands, knees, bending, standing, and lifting.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Must be able to talk and hear.

Pre-employment screening:

  • Complete criminal background.
  • Name checked in the registries. (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities).
  • Drug testing.
  • Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements.
  • Proof of employment history or references (if required).
  • Positions that require driving: Proof of driver's license, driver's insurance, and vehicle, IF required for providing transportation for individuals.
