Job summary

Hickory Treatment Centers is seeking a Medication Technician (Med Tech) to support safe medication administration, documentation, and education for adults in treatment. Under supervision of the Director of Nursing, you will help manage medications, monitor health, collect specimens, and ensure compliance with state and Joint Commission standards.

This role requires a QMA program completion, strong communication and confidentiality, and flexibility for weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) program through an accredited nursing school.
  • At least two years of previous Medication Aide experience preferred.
  • Previous hospital, behavioral health, or substance use treatment experience preferred.
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and administer medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Document medication administration accurately and promptly in the client’s medical record.
  • Apply topical medications and administer metered-dose inhalers as directed.
  • Administer enemas under the direction of a licensed nurse.
  • Provide medication-related education and support to clients within the scope of the role.
  • Monitor clients for concerns related to medication administration and promptly report findings to licensed nursing staff.
  • Obtain and document client vital signs, including oxygen saturation.
  • Perform blood glucose testing and report results to the licensed nurse.
  • Assist with minor treatments after assessment and direction from a licensed nurse.
  • Observe and communicate changes in client condition to appropriate nursing staff.
  • Collect urine drug screen (UDS) and fecal specimens in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Complete required testing and accurately document results.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all applicable safety and infection-control procedures.
  • Clean and maintain medication carts in accordance with facility policies.
  • Ensure medication carts are organized and free of loose, expired, or improperly stored medications.
  • Verify that medications are clearly labeled and stored appropriately.
  • Identify medications requiring replenishment and tag them for reorder as needed.
  • Report medication inventory concerns to the appropriate licensed nursing staff.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medication and client-care documentation.
  • Follow all facility policies, medication administration procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with Hickory standards, state regulations, and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Participate in required training, professional development, and continuing education.
  • Maintain professional, respectful, and therapeutic interactions with clients and team members.
  • Collaborate effectively with nursing staff and the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Medication Technician - Hickory Treatment Centers

Department: Nursing
Reports To: Director of Nursing
Employment Type: Full-Time
Shift Schedule: 2nd Shift 2:00pm - 10:00pm; 3:00pm - 11:00pm. Every other weekend.

About the Role

The Medication Technician (Med Tech) plays an important role in supporting the health, safety, and treatment of adult clients receiving care for substance use and behavioral health concerns.

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing and licensed nursing staff, the Med Tech is responsible for supporting the safe administration, management, documentation, and education of client medications. This role also assists with monitoring client health, collecting specimens, maintaining medication supplies, and ensuring compliance with facility, state, and regulatory standards.

Job Qualifications

Compensation

$19.00–$24.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
