Position Title: Medication History Technician, PRN
Job Description

Purpose & Scope:

The medication history technician (MHT) is responsible for accurately obtaining and entering current patient medications and allergies into the hospital's electronic medical record for use by physicians responsible for admitting and discharging patients. The MHT also relays or escalates medication-related issues they cannot address to the pharmacist and/or physician. Additionally, this position performs limited medication management and distribution duties.

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: At least two years of retail/hospital pharmacy experience and one year of computer experience required.
  • Certification/Licensure: Licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician by the Virginia Department of Health Professions and certified as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
Other Qualifications
  • Familiarity with commonly prescribed medications, including brand/generic names, uses, doses, frequencies, and dosage forms.
  • Excellent computer, interpersonal skills, and ability to work under pressure with healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to handle difficult patient and family situations, including those in the emergency department.
  • Competent and compassionate interaction with patients presenting with acute illness.
