Job description

Assists with medications and maintains compliance with all state and federal regulations and the standards of HRA.

Essential Functions:

  1. Checks each of the six (6) rights of medication administration three (3) times: (1) When the medication is taken out of the med cart or cabinet; (2) Immediately before assisting with the medication; (3) Immediately after assisting with the medication.
  2. Assists with medications to residents according to their Medication Observation Record (MOR).
  3. Documents clearly and accurately on the MOR after a medication is taken or given, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, returned, in accordance with policy.
  4. Maintains a neat, clean, organized med cart/cabinet and restocks as needed.
  5. Provides residents with any treatments required as part of their individual service plan.
  6. Promotes and protects the residents' rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatment.
  7. Answers and responds immediately to resident calls.
  8. Respects the resident’s right to refuse medication and/or treatment.
  9. Explains to the resident what medication is being given and why, prior to assisting with or administering the medication.
  10. Observes the resident for any adverse reactions to the medication and reports to the DRC and/or supervisor immediately.
  11. Reports any and all medication errors honestly and immediately.
  12. Seeks assistance and advice from supervisor immediately if there are any doubts or questions when assisting with or administering medications or treatments.
  13. Responds to on-the-job injuries in accordance with policy.
  14. Notifies supervisor of any concerns or questions presented by the resident's family members.
  15. Adheres to universal precautions and all other infection control guidelines.
  16. Disposes of infectious and/or potentially infectious waste according to OSHA regulations.
  17. Demonstrates respectful behavior in all interactions with residents, families, staff, and other visitors to the community.
  18. Performs specific work duties as assigned by supervisor.
  19. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures.
  20. Meets or exceeds health standards for appearance, sanitation, and hygiene.

Non-Essential Functions:

  1. Leads by example exhibiting the CORE Values through servant leadership.
  2. Encourages teamwork and promotes company philosophy.
  3. Attends required community meetings and participates in Life Enrichment activities when able.
  4. Completes all required courses in adherence with HRA University.
  5. Is prompt and able to perform the required duties of the position on a regular, predictable basis.
  6. Becomes familiar with and understands how to report a missing person using the Safe Return program or an equivalent.
  7. All associates are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all community residents.
