Job summary

Gentle Touch Health Initiatives is seeking a Medication Assistant to administer medications to residents in a safe, organized manner within a long-term care setting. You will document administration, communicate with the nurse case manager, and stay informed about state requirements for medication assistants.

The role requires adherence to MAR documentation, proper dosage and timing, confidentiality, and participation in staff trainings.

Qualifications

• Registration as a Trained Medication Assistant (TMA) preferred.
• Minimum six month experience in long term care or assisted living residence.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must be able to prioritize, and organize work effectively and efficiently.
• Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
• Must work as a team member with other personnel.
• Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
• Must be punctual, with good attendance record.
• Must remain calm in difficult or unusual circumstances.
• Able to make responsible choices and decisions and act in the resident's best interest.
• Maintains confidentiality
• Able to read, write, spell, do basic math, speak and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications to residents using the MAR as a guide.
• Prepare medication for each resident's medication administration with the following: Right Drug, Right time, Right route, Right resident, Right dosage.
• Ensure confidentiality of resident medication among other residents, staff and families.
• Document legibly all resident concerns made while administering the medication.
• Complete resident treatments as outlined in the Treatment Administration Record.
• Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of medication cart.
• Restock medication cart with cups and spoons after all medication passes are completed.
• Be accountable for medication errors and report immediately.
• Attend monthly staff meetings and other scheduled training sessions required by your supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
