Job summary

Self-Help for the Elderly in San Mateo, CA seeks a Community Outreach Coordinator to promote Medicare benefits awareness and HICAP services across San Mateo County. The role involves coordinating outreach events, presenting to local partners, and maintaining materials in multiple languages.

The ideal candidate will manage volunteer programs, train counselors, and ensure timely reporting to the CDA and SHARP systems, aligning with program objectives and community needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training with at least two years of experience working in senior and disability services.
• Must complete HICAP counselor training and/or registration within 3 to 6 months of employment.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal, MediGap, managed care, long-term care insurance, and health care delivery systems preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, and experience in group presentations. Bilingual in English and Chinese/Spanish preferred.
• Must have and maintain a valid CA driver license, satisfactory driving record, and auto insurance coverage as specified in Self-Help’s policy.

Responsibilities

• Promotes greater awareness of HICAP services to Medicare beneficiaries and their families throughout San Mateo County; develops and implements an outreach work plan in collaboration with the Program Manager.
• Coordinate outreach events and presentations, representing HICAP to local businesses, community partners, civic clubs, and congregations; maintain a media kit and identify media partners to reach underserved communities.
• Distribute Medicare and related outreach materials at events; assess needs for additional materials and assist with bilingual translations as needed.
• Maintain a list of volunteers for outreach events and coordinate their assistance with the Volunteer Coordinator.
• Recruit and train registered counselors to become Community Educators, oversee internship hours, and support PowerPoint presentations for CDA requirements.
