Job summary

Trustmark in Chicago seeks an Underwriting Analyst to support the underwriting of level funded medical products by reviewing applications, claims experience, and related data to evaluate risk and determine appropriate premium rates for new and existing clients.

Collaborate with underwriting, sales, and operations to ensure data quality and alignment on case strategy, while maintaining clear documentation and defensible risk assessments. Proficiency in Excel and underwriting systems is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and/or 2–4 years of related experience.
• Working knowledge of medical underwriting principles.
• Ability to apply guidelines to underwriting decisions.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Effective time management and organization in a fast‑paced environment.
• Clear written and verbal communication, ability to explain decisions.
• Proficiency in Excel and underwriting systems/tools.

Responsibilities

• Review applications, claims experience, and data to evaluate risk and set premium rates for new business and renewals.
• Collaborate with underwriting, sales, and operations to ensure data quality and timely execution.
• Prepare and maintain complete documentation of underwriting analysis, assumptions, and decisions for audit and compliance.
• Maintain familiarity with underwriting tools and cost drivers to support accurate risk assessment.
• Develop underwriting proficiency through ongoing learning and feedback.
